Treat Yoself

June 02, 2017

Okay, we've all seen the Parks & Recreation treat yoself GIFs. Coffee is always my treat, so we'll just roll with that image.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's talk about why treating yoself is important. Maybe not as ridiculous as what they do in Parks & Rec.

But there is definitely a benefit to taking care of yourself. As women, we are so often caretakers. That's a really beautiful thing, but there's also beauty in feeling great while we take care of others. How can we give everyone our best selves when we don't feel our best?

For me, this comes up a lot in my relationships with my family and my partner. I love being a person who people can turn to for support, but there's no way I could be that person if I am not feeling supported in the same ways. I personally really need a lot of alone time and time to just relax. For some people, self-care is hanging out with others or exerciseI am not one of those people, but good for you if that's your thing!

This is all to say, make sure you're thinking of yourself. It's the best—and maybe only—way to think of other people without harming yourself. Now, for one more GIF:

How Can We be for All Women?

Because we do not identify with just one religion or culture, we don't feel comfortable serving just one group. Our work in the past has inspired us to work in a multicultural setting now and taught us important lessons about how to do so. The best, and maybe only, way to do this is by starting with respect to build trust over time.
