Unfortunately, this blog has nothing to do with dogs. But, it does have to do with doing good in the world and I am convinced that dogs can do no wrong so...here's a picture of me and my dog.
If you're interested in business, corporate social responsibility is something you've definitely heard of. Even if you haven't, we're sure you've heard discussion around it. "Fast fashion" came under fire in the past few years because of tragedies that occurred in their factories (you can read more about these from The New York Times, Quartz, or The Phuket News). Still, recent coverage has shown that not much has changed within many of these workplaces. The manufacturing industry can be dangerous and unfair to those with the least power, and we can't support that.
Although we're just starting out, it was important for us from the beginning (so since two or so months ago) to support positive business practices. Luckily, we live in a time where we can really get to know the manufacturers who we choose to work with. Companies like Patagonia & MY SISTER set examples for companies like barhoom. We learn from them and put our own spin on things too.
In our search for barhoomBag partner companies, we hold true to those beliefs. In our talks with potential partners, we get a grasp about where their clothing comes from and who makes it. There are a lot of great brands out there, and we want to make sure that we're aligning ourselves with them. If you like what we're doing, please let us know!
From the fabric to the pattern making to the final production, we want to treat everyone we work with as a human who deserves respect. Nobody should have to worry about being harmed because of unsafe work conditions. Nobody should have to survive off of too-low wages. Our mission is keeping in mind the idea that no piece of clothing is more important than our fellow humans.
This quarter, we're donating 5% of our proceeds to Heifer International. Heifer International empowers families to turn hunger and poverty into hope and prosperity – but their approach is more than just giving them a handout.
