How We Define Modesty

April 06, 2017

BarhoomBrands was born out of the struggle for inclusion and representation. It was created quite simply to provide options in a fashion industry that pressures women to all look a certain way, rather than cater to diverse bodies, backgrounds, and lifestyles. And quite frankly, we’ve had enough. I’m not trying to make this into some rallying cry, but for real though, what does a girl gotta do to get some decent shopping options around here?!

It is absolutely amazing to see all these women taking matters into their own hands and creating an up-and-coming modest clothing industry (like this incredible milestone!). We want to contribute to and become a part of this community by bringing you items from international brands right to your doorstep. We want to make it easy for you to have access to clothes that make you feel comfortable in your own skin (and clothes). But how do you know if we have the types of clothing for you? How do we define modesty?

Modesty just happens to be one of those words that is defined differently by different people (like every other word ever). So, we collect information, from our own experience as well as from other sisters in the struggle, to build an inventory of clothing that can be useful to all interpretations of modesty.

We define modesty by not defining it at all. You tell us your definition, and we run around the world looking for items that agree with what you’re saying. Yes, our company name has a religious affiliation but our brand does not (and I mean we went with this name because it's my super cute baby’s name). Even if you don’t identify yourself as modest-dressing but just like our style of clothes, you’re absolutely welcome! Remember- inclusion and representation is whatsup.

But there is definitely a benefit to taking care of yourself. As women, we are so often caretakers. That's a really beautiful thing, but there's also beauty in feeling great while we take care of others. How can we give everyone our best selves when we don't feel our best?
