How Can We be for All Women?

We are a company built for women of all backgrounds and beliefs. Okay maybe our ideas are lofty, but that's the only way to make positive change. Or at least that seems like something a motivational speaker would say. Noor and I met through Cultural Events Board, an organization for people who were not very cool in college (only referring to Noor and I, not other board members who were much cooler than us). CEB was a place where people of so many different backgrounds congregated to shine a light on underrepresented cultures on our school's campus. That meant anyone. We worked with from everyone from the Gay-Straight Alliance to the Ceramics Club to the Muslim Students Association. In all of the interesting and sometimes tense discussions we had, we learned that it is possible to work to work with and help diverse groups of people who do not all have the same beliefs. 

That being said, as two women of color who are super intersectional (our ethnicities alone cover every continent besides Antarctica and have a million other identities), we think it's important to respect everyone's humanity. I think the quote goes "I'll respect your opinion as long as it doesn't disrespect my existence." As individuals and as a company want to be respectful of all identities and ideas. People are people, and they deserve to be treated well no matter how they identify. The world has enough hate, now's the time for more love. 

That's exactly why we're working to be a service for all women. Because we do not identify with just one religion or culture, we don't feel comfortable serving just one group. Our work in the past has inspired us to work in a multicultural setting now and taught us important lessons about how to do so. The best, and maybe only, way to do this is by starting with respect to build trust over time. That's how we work for all women.
